Taste Barbados
Finding your next favourite food spot in Barbados, all in one place.
Overview
Taste Barbados is a food discovery site for Barbados founded by Lamar Cox(myself) and Shaquon Hamilton. It brings together restaurants, bakeries, food trucks, rum shops, cafés, caterers and roadside stalls, so locals and visitors can find somewhere good to eat without digging through scattered social media pages. People can browse spots on a map, filter by what they’re craving, save favourites, and ask an AI assistant for recommendations. Business owners can apply to list their spot and manage it themselves.

My Role(s)
Coder, Full stack developer, Marketing Designer etc. Wholistically, I assisted in the brand and visual identity, product and UX design, information design, responsive layout, and front-end and back-end development. I also assisted with designing the launch marketing, social media launch graphics
Problems
Food information in Barbados is spread across Instagram and Facebook pages, word of mouth and outdated listings, so many great local spots are hard to find, especially small vendors with no website. The product had to feel warm and local rather than like a generic directory. It had to be simple enough for anyone to use on a phone, and still give business owners a trustworthy way to get listed and keep their details up to date.
Solutions
Myself and Shaquon built an Explore experience with a map, search and quick filters. Each food spot opens in a pop-out panel showing its menu, photos, directions and ratings, so people get what they need without leaving the page. Visitors can save spots and get recommendations from an AI chat. For owners, We designed a sign-up and review process and a self-serve admin area, with a free tier and an optional Premium tier. A consistent visual system ties it all together, with a food-doodle pattern, a sky blue and gold palette and the coconut drink logo. It carries across the site, emails and shared link previews.
Outcome
Taste Barbados gives the island’s food scene one welcoming home, where people can discover local favourites and small businesses can be found. The platform is built and launching publicly, with a launch campaign across social media. Next we’ll grow the number of listed food spots and refine the experience based on how people use it.
